This is probably the easiest summit I've attained on my list so far. I did it early on Saturday morning with my son and didn't even bother taking photos - besides a few summit shots on my iPhone which I won't bother posting here.
The September long weekend found our family camping in Banff National Park. We decided to finally do a hike that's been on my mind for a long time already - pretty much since I completed the scramble traverse of Mount Edith a number of years back.
On Friday, September 25 2010 Hanneke and I did a nice hiking circuit in Lake Louise. Our route took us to Lake Agnes, over The Beehive and down to the Plain of Six Glaciers trail back to the parking lot. The Beehive is not a tough scramble by any means, but it does involve some elevation gain and consequently some very sublime views.
As part of our Elk Lakes backpacking trip, we took a day trip to Petain Falls. This is a pleasant and very easy hike, about 10km return. We also included the Elk Lakes viewpoint hike on the same day which made for a longer day and much more effort.
I decided early on in 2008 that it was time I bagged a few of the Kane peaks in Jasper National Park. In the span of two weeks I've now completed over half of them! Indian Ridge and The Whistlers were my latest Jasper peaks. I shared the pleasure with two nephews and two brother-in-laws on June 30 2008.
Signal Mountain is easily done off the Skyline Trail backpacking route in Jasper National Park. I would never do it as a stand-alone peak but it could be combined with an ascent of nearby Mount Tekarra via the Signal Mountain fire road from the Maligne Canyon parking lot.
